🛡️ Safeguarding & Professional Standards
-
Safeguarding and child welfare are central to my work. I follow a clear safeguarding policy and act in line with best practice to ensure children’s safety and wellbeing at all times. I hold an enhanced DBS check suitable for working with children, which is updated regularly.

I am a fully qualified primary school teacher with experience teaching and tutoring children in primary school. I have been teaching since qualifying as a teacher in 2015, gaining experience across all primary year groups. Since starting HQ Learning in 2022, I have tutored many children throughout the primary years, as well as developing a specialism in 11+ tuition. My 11+ specialism is built on careful research into how the exams are structured, what children are expected to demonstrate, and the skills that lead to success, combined with experience supporting pupils through the preparation process.
I am committed to maintaining high professional standards and keeping my practice up to date through continued professional development.

HQ Learning holds appropriate Public Liability and Professional Indemnity Insurance.
Risk assessments are carried out for all venues used for tuition to help ensure a safe learning environment. Where tuition takes place in the child’s home, parents and carers are responsible for providing a safe, suitable, and appropriate workspace for 1:1 sessions.
For 1:1 home tuition, a responsible adult must be present at all times. HQ Learning cannot accept responsibility for supervising or chaperoning the child outside of the agreed tuition activities, nor for any property within the home during sessions.
📚 Tuition Arrangements & Expectations
-
Parents and carers should give as much notice as possible if their child will be absent from a lesson. Notification can be made by text, call, or email.
1:1 Tuition:
If more than 48 hours’ notice is given, the lesson will be rescheduled.
If less than 48 hours’ notice is given, the lesson cannot be rescheduled.
If the tutor needs to cancel a lesson, it will be rescheduled, or refunded if a suitable alternative cannot be arranged.
Students should be prepared and ready for lessons at the agreed start time. If a student is not ready, the lesson may be shortened to allow the tutor to travel to other commitments.
The tutor may occasionally be delayed due to traffic or other lessons; in this case, the full lesson time will be delivered from the tutor’s arrival. The tutor will try to contact parents if it is safe to do so.
Group Sessions:
No refunds are available for missed group sessions.
If parents notify HQ Learning in advance, it may be possible for the child to attend an alternative session, if available.
If a student will be late for a group session, parents should inform HQ Learning in advance.
-
If you wish to stop your child’s tuition, please notify HQ Learning in writing via email or text. A minimum of one month’s notice is required.
Lessons paid for in advance are non-refundable. Upon receiving notice, HQ Learning will cancel any ongoing direct debit payments and confirm the official end date of tuition.
HQ Learning reserves the right to terminate tuition at any time if a student’s behaviour, repeated lateness, or other issues make it unsuitable to continue. In such cases, lessons will not be refunded, but any prepaid tuition beyond the termination date will be adjusted accordingly.
-
Payments for all tuition are made online. Cash payments are not preferred, but if cash is used, a confirmation of payment will be provided.
Short-term courses or individual lessons:
Payment must be made in advance to secure the session.
Ongoing lessons:
Payments are collected via a monthly direct debit at the start of each month.
Monthly payments are spread evenly across the year (or course duration). Parents and carers can check the full lesson schedule with HQ Learning at any time.
Group lessons:
A deposit may be taken in advance to secure places in group lessons.
HQ Learning reserves the right to refuse participation in 1:1 tuition or group sessions if payment has not been received.
-
HQ Learning promotes positive behaviour and uses encouraging techniques to support learning. Sanctions are not generally implemented; instead, high expectations for behaviour are maintained at all times.
Children are expected to behave respectfully, cooperate, and participate fully in tuition.
If a child is not behaving appropriately, the tutor will contact parents to discuss the situation and agree on how to move forward.
For group sessions, if behaviour disrupts the child’s own learning or that of others, HQ Learning may decide to cease tuition.
For 1:1 home tuition, parents and carers remain ultimately responsible for their child’s behaviour during the session.
